Customizing the Text

Use the following procedure to customize the text.

Procedure

  1. In an XML editor, open a file in the synchronization directory.

You can determine if a file contains a new or changed string by viewing the log file created in the location that you specified for the Log_File variable during configuration Configure Cognos UI and Error String Customization Toolkit.

  2. Customize the strings that are identified by the translate attributes as new or changed.

We recommend that you manually delete the translate attributes after you modify each string.

Important: Do not modify any text other than the strings.
  3. Ensure that all strings in the file are customized.
Tip: Search for new and changed.
  4. Save the file.
  5. Repeat steps 1 to 4 for each file in the synchronization directory that has new or changed strings.
  6. If you did not already delete the translate attributes manually, you can delete the translate attributes globally if either of the following is true
    • You are certain that all your strings are customized. If you delete all your translate attributes before you finish customizing all the strings, you may have problems finding the strings that were not customized.
    • You want to customize only specific strings and do not want to customize the remaining strings marked with the translate attribute. If you customize the product, you may want to modify only some strings. You find and modify the strings, review your changes, and then delete all the translate attributes globally.
    • For Windows operating systems do the following:

      1. From the Start menu, click Programs, IBM Cognos 10, Administration, Advanced.
      2. Click Clean Message Files.

The customize_clean.bat file located in the IBM Cognos User Interface and Error String Customization Toolkit installation directory installation_location\bin runs.

    • For UNIX or Linux operating systems, do the following:

      1. Open a command line and go to the location where Cognos UI and Error String Customization Toolkit is installed.
      2. Type //installation_location/bin>localize.sh clean
The processing may take a few minutes. After it is finished, you can validate the customized files.
