it is important to validate the customized files in the synchronization
directory. </div>
 <p class="p">The validation process:</p>
 <ul class="ul"><li class="li">checks to see if the customized files conform to the schema <span class="ph filepath">CCLMessageFile.xsd</span><p class="p">This
is to ensure that no changes were made to the format of the input
files.</p>
 </li>
<li class="li">checks for the presence of the translate attribute in the customized
files <p class="p">If the translate attribute is still present, a warning appears.</p>
 </li>
</ul>
 </div>
<div class="section prereq"><div class="tasklabel"><h2 class="sectiontitle tasklabel">Before you begin</h2></div> <p class="p">You must have already <a class="xref" href="ug_ldk_c_localizethetext.html#LocalizetheText" title="Customize the messages and user interface text in the files that are located in the synchronization directory.">customized
the files</a>.</p>

<div class="tasklabel"><h2 class="sectiontitle tasklabel">Procedure</h2></div><ol class="ol steps"><li class="li step stepexpand"><span class="ph cmd">Validate the files.</span> <ul class="ul choices"><li class="li choice"><p class="p">For Windows operating
systems do the following:</p>
 <ol class="ol" type="a"><li class="li">From the <span class="ph uicontrol">Start</span> menu, click <span class="ph uicontrol">Programs</span>, <span class="ph uicontrol">IBM
Cognos 10</span>, <span class="ph uicontrol">Administration</span>, <span class="ph uicontrol">Validate</span>.</li>
</ol>
</li>
<li class="li choice"><p class="p">For UNIX or Linux operating systems, do the
following:</p>
<ol class="ol" type="a"><li class="li">Open a command line and go to the location where Cognos® UI and Error String Customization Toolkit
is installed.</li>
<li class="li">Type <kbd class="ph userinput">//<var class="keyword varname">installation_location</var>/bin&gt;localize.sh
validate</kbd> </li>
</ol>
</li>
</ul>
The processing may take a few minutes.</li>
<li class="li step stepexpand"><span class="ph cmd">If a warning appears about a translate attribute, do the
following:</span>  <ul class="ul"><li class="li">Open the file that contains the translate attribute.</li>
<li class="li">Ensure that all messages are customized.</li>
<li class="li">Ensure that all translate attributes are deleted. </li>
</ul>

<li class="li step stepexpand"><span class="ph cmd">Repeat these steps until the validation is successful.</span>  <p class="p">You can now <a class="xref" href="ug_ldk_t_generatethetargetresourcefiles.html#GeneratetheTargetResourceFiles" title="IBM Cognos User Interface and Error String Customization Toolkit generates the target resource files containing the customized text.">generate the target resource files</a>.</p>
